MERRILL, Wis. (WSAW) – The Lincoln County Fair began Wednesday in Merrill.
The fair kept all of its usual attractions, like the tractor pull and the demolition derby on Sunday, but added new ones. Clyde Nelson, board member of the fair association, said they try to add something new every year, like this year’s miniature golf and an 8-foot robot.
“We’re trying to change things up a little bit and I think we have a great lineup this year,” Nelson said.
The fair brings together organizations from across the area to run food stands and raise money.
“They come and help, and the money they raise obviously stays in the community,” Nelson said.
Jerry Leopold has worked at the Merrill Eagles Club beer booth since joining the group in 1981.
“Many of us are nonprofits and it helps us to donate money throughout the year,” Leopold said.
Nelson and his colleague and fair organizer Sharon Idstein say they are grateful for a nice weekend for the nearly 40,000 visitors expected, as many as last year.
“It’s going to be wonderful weather,” Nelson said. “Sharon has been praying for great weather here and it looks like it’s going to be 70 degrees and low humidity.”
The fair runs until Sunday, August 11th.
