A late summer heat wave could bring Madison its hottest day of the year on Monday, according to meteorologists.
According to National Weather Service records, the high temperature in Madison has been 90 degrees or higher only four times this year, with 92 degrees being the highest.
The weather service is forecasting highs of 91 degrees for Monday, AccuWeather is predicting 93 degrees, and NBC15 is predicting highs of 91 degrees, with a heat index of 104 degrees.
According to NBC15, heat and humidity will arrive with a warm front to the west that will move northeast and align along the Canadian border over the next few days.
Kevin Wagner, a meteorologist with the weather service in Hartland, said the heat index in Madison on Monday is expected to be between 101 and 103.

“The weather forecast has been a little unstable the last few days, like Sunday was going to be our hot day,” Wagner told the State Journal. “Now it’s pushed back to Monday again.”
“Even if we don’t reach these higher heat indices, even if we’re between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, it’s still going to cause problems for people, especially those who are sensitive to heat,” Wagner added.
Wagner said it’s possible we could break Madison’s 2024 high temperature of 92 degrees Celsius, but it’s unlikely we’ll break the record high of 95 degrees Celsius set on August 26.
Highs around 90 are not uncommon this time of year, as Madison’s record highs from August 23-27 are 98, 98, 94, 95 and 95.
Dane County Regional Airport has recorded highs of 90 or higher this year: 92 on June 17, 91 on June 18, 90 on June 25 and 92 on July 31.
Highs in Madison are expected to be above 25 degrees on Friday, rise to above 30 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, exceed 32 degrees on Monday, and fall back to above 25 degrees starting Tuesday.
Skies over Madison are expected to be mostly sunny Friday and Saturday, partly sunny Sunday, sunny Monday and mostly sunny Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the weather service said.
