Lancaster police ask for public help after early morning shooting and car crash

Lancaster – The Lancaster Police Department (LPD) is asking for the public’s assistance following two separate incidents that occurred early this morning, August 16, 2024.

At approximately 3:28 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting at the Timbertop Apartments in the 2200 block of North Columbus Street. The caller reported that three unidentified males were attempting to break into parked vehicles. When confronted, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired two shots in the caller’s direction. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The suspects fled the scene toward Lowe’s and the entrance to River Valley Highlands and are currently at large.

Shortly thereafter, at 3:47 a.m., police were called to an accident at the Midtown Apartments, 1300 Community Way. A vehicle had crashed into a building and it was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen from the Relax Inn, 1327 River Valley Boulevard, shortly before the incident. The identity of the thief is unknown.

At this time, it is unclear if these two incidents are related. Lancaster Police are actively investigating and are asking the public for assistance.
