Kearney High’s explosive offense led to their third win of the season as they defeated Lincoln Northeast 12-6 on Wednesday night.
Six home runs between the two schools made for a high-energy matchup on Wednesday night. Lincoln Northeast took a quick 4-1 lead after the second inning thanks to a two-run home run by Lily McPike. McPike hit two home runs and finished the day 3-4. Lauren Schmeits started on the mound for the Bearcats and played 3.2 IP, allowing seven hits, allowing four earned runs and striking out three Rockets.
Greeley Cargill came in to replace Schmeits, pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Finally, Avery Longshore finished the game with 2.0 innings, striking out two players and allowing just one hit.
Of the 13 hits the Bearcats had on Wednesday night, starting pitcher Lauren Schmeits led the way with three hits and 1 RBI. It was the home run that paved the way for the Bearcats, with Alexa Jacobsen and Ava Magnani scoring two runs each. Jacobsen totaled 5 RBIs, bringing her season total to 13. Kennedy Lee also had a good day at bat, going 2-3 with 2 runs and a walk.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 3-0, while the Rockets fall to 1-2.
Kearney High is back in action Thursday night, traveling for a doubleheader against the Fremont Tigers.
The Bearcats won’t return home until September 5th.
