LOWER SALFORD – A Montgomery County roofing company wants to give a deserving homeowner a new roof.
JB Roofing Systems in Lower Salford Township is accepting nominations for its Roof Relief Program. Nominations may be submitted on behalf of a homeowner or homeowners.
This is the first time the company has implemented the Roof Relief Program to give back to the community that has supported the company since owner Jeff Banes opened it in 2013.
“Our community has done a lot for us. Our owner always works with local businesses, so when something needs to be done for his own property or the business, it’s always done locally and in the community,” said Evan Foulds, residential estimator at JB Roofing. “Since we started in 2013, Harleysville and the Lower Salford area have helped us get to where we are today as a company. It’s only fair that we give back.”
According to Foulds, JB Roofing accepts nominations from across the area it serves, including Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks and Lehigh counties.
Community members can nominate themselves or someone they believe deserves the umbrella system. Foulds said nominations are not limited to those in need of financial assistance.
“It’s open to everyone – those in need, first responders, veterans, those who have done heroic work in their community,” he said.
The nomination deadline is August 30. Nominations can be submitted at https://jbroofingsystems.com/nominate. The nomination form will ask for the name and contact information of the nominating person and the name and address of the nominee.
The form also asks for the reason for the nomination. According to a post on the company’s Facebook page, that reason is for the opportunity to tell a “heartwarming story of people who deserve it and who could use a brand new roof – at our expense!”
The initiative aims to support those who have made significant contributions to the community or who are facing financial or personal difficulties and could greatly benefit from this assistance, the company said.
“Roofing isn’t cheap. It’s one of the more expensive renovations and a lot of people have problems with it. But you can’t live without it – everyone needs a roof,” Foulds said.
Foulds said JB Roofing has received support from several companies for the initiative, including ABC Supply in Souderton, GAF and Blue Dumpsters Inc. in Green Lane, which is providing a dumpster and installation services.
Foulds said nominations are reviewed internally by the company’s four staff members, taking into account factors such as community involvement, personal hardship and general need.
The winner will be announced on August 31 and work is scheduled for mid-September. Foulds said installation should take a day, depending on the complexity of the project. He added that the company plans to make the Roof Relief Program an annual event each August.
Foulds said he was surprised at how well everyone seemed to know each other when he started at the company, and he was impressed by the reach the company had in the community.
“Without the support of the entire community, we would not be where we are today,” he said.
