A Nebraska native could be headed for a big year for the Cornhuskers.
ESPN has listed 32 insider tips that could make it big this fall. Among them: Huskers wide receiver Jaylen Lloyd.
Lloyd played in 10 games as a freshman, including a start against Maryland. In his rookie season, the Omaha Westside graduate caught six passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. All three of his touchdowns were longer than 50 yards.
“He’s going to be a real guy,” Nebraska coach Matt Rhule told ESPN. “He’s just explosive and fast.”
Lloyd continued to be explosive and fast after football season, competing in the jumps for the Husker track and field team. During the indoor season, Lloyd placed fifth in the long jump (24-3 1/2) and seventh in the triple jump (50-0) at the Big Ten Championships. Outdoors, Lloyd placed fourth in the long jump (25-1 3/4) and 12th in the triple jump (50-1 3/4) at the Big Ten.
Lloyd and Raoila, a potential favorite target for freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola, combined for a 64-yard touchdown in the Red-White spring game.
“Jaylen is one of the most improved players on the team,” Rhule said after the game in April.
