COLUMBIA, MO – On the first busy day of college football, one of the teams that surprised many last season will hope to start the 2024 season off on a high note when the Missouri Tigers host the Murray State Racers.

The Tigers were a pleasant surprise last season, putting together one of the best runs the team has had in a long time. Eli Drinkwitz’s team challenged some of the SEC’s top teams and finished the season with a record of 11-2, the Tigers’ first 10-win season since winning the East in 2014. They have a lot of talent back, including wide receiver Luther Burden III. Burden will be one of Brady Cook’s big targets this season. In addition to a solid offense, Missouri has a strong defense that has even more weapons despite losing guys like Ennis Rakestraw. The Tigers’ pash rush is expected to give the SEC’s best some problems again this year.

Murray State, an FCS program, is entering a new era this season as Jody Wright was introduced in January as the 20th head coach in program history. The program has struggled in recent years, finishing just 2-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2022 and 2-9 overall last year.
