Giants sign former Pittsburgh Steelers special teams star

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and special teams ace Miles Boykin has re-signed with the New York Giants to join their practice squad. Boykin was released as part of the team’s 53-man roster cut and will take on a special teams role after being promoted from the practice squad.

Drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Ravens out of Notre Dame, Boykin has bounced around the NFL quite a bit. After failing in Baltimore in 2022, he signed with the Steelers to become part of a strong wide receiver corps. Although he didn’t show much as a wide receiver aside from his blocks, Boykin became one of the NFL’s best shooters and a valued member of their special teams.

Boykin remained with the Steelers for the entire 2023 season. However, he left the team and signed with the Giants in the offseason as the Steelers revamped their entire wide receiver room. Additionally, special teams will look very different this year with Boykin and others gone. Darius Rush and Scotty Miller are the Steelers’ cannons, and while they were good against the Detroit Lions, they didn’t reach the level that Boykin and James Pierre did a year ago.

Boykin is expected to remain on the Giants’ practice squad until either an injury gives him a chance to move up or another team needs a wide receiver who focuses on special teams.
