Election Day on November 5 is less than 70 days away. Georgia, like all 50 states and Puerto Rico, has certain restrictions and requirements for voting. With just over two months to go, Georgia voters have a number of ways to prepare for the big day: register to vote, make sure you’re registered to vote in your county, vote early and find out where the polling place is.

The Atlanta Voice wanted to put together an easy-to-understand voting guide for Georgians. Here are some important dates and requirements voters should know before voting.

Are you registered to vote?

The last day to register to vote in Georgia is Monday, October 7. To find out if you are registered to vote, Georgians can visit vote.gov/register/Georgia. A quick visit to the website provides an opportunity to not only verify your registration, but also register to vote if needed. The last day to register by mail is also Monday, October 7.

There are different registration dates depending on the election. The Georgia Office of Secretary of State lists the different dates.

A national voter registration form is also available online in English and Spanish.

When can you vote early?

Anyone who wants to vote now will have to wait a little longer. Early voting in Georgia begins on Tuesday, October 15. The last day to request a mail-in ballot is ten days later on Friday, October 25.

Where can I vote?

Depending on which county you are registered to vote in, there are specific polling places. All registered voters have been given a voter registration card that indicates the specific polling place. If you don’t have your card, no problem. You can find out which your specific polling place is by visiting the Office of the Secretary of State’s website or the County Board of Registrar’s Office website.

What do I need to vote?

If you are registered to vote and are at your polling place, all you need is a valid photo ID. A list of valid forms of identification can be found on the Georgia Office of the Secretary of State website. These include valid driver’s licenses, Georgia public college or university IDs, a valid U.S. passport, and a U.S. military ID.
