Georgia has “the best offense in the nation,” according to outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss

ATHENS – Georgia hasn’t started focusing on Clemson yet.

The defense has its hands full during daily training, as Chaz Chambliss explained to reporters on Thursday.

“We like to focus on ourselves at this stage of the season,” Chambliss said. “We don’t start preparing for Clemson until the week before the game, but right now we’re going up against the best offense in the country.”

A quarterback like Carson Beck is certainly helpful in this regard. Beck is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the country after an outstanding 2023 season.

But Beck alone isn’t the reason Chambliss has such strong feelings about Georgia’s offense.

“We have some of the best talent in the world and the best coaches,” Chambliss said. “The coaches take that talent and put it into a system that plays to everyone’s strengths. Every day we’re out there, we just know there’s going to be wins and losses. They’re just as talented on defense as we are and they’re just experienced.”

To Chambliss’s point: Only Alabama can say it has recruited at the same level as Georgia recently. And no program has taken more players – 48 – in the last five NFL drafts than Georgia.

On offense, Georgia averaged 40.1 points per game last season. Georgia and USC are the only two teams to average over 40 points per game the last two seasons.

Chambliss specifically praised Georgia’s offensive line, which has been a consistent strength under Kirby Smart.

Even though the Bulldogs will have to replace Sedrick Van Pran-Granger and Amarius Mims, Georgia is expected to have one of the best offensive lines in the country this season. Georgia returns four starters from the Orange Bowl, which Georgia won 63-3.

When asked how one of these offensive linemen felt about Chambliss’ bold statement, Earnest Greene explained why the level on offense is so high.

“The sky’s the limit,” Greene said. “We have a lot of dynamic and explosive guys that can make things happen. It’s just a matter of us making sure up front that those guys can do that by protecting Carson, letting him get the ball where he needs to go or letting him run where he needs to. The ceiling is really high for this offense, and we’re making sure we do everything we need to to get to that ceiling.”

Greene and Chambliss acknowledged that both sides of the ball will be tested later this month when Georgia faces Clemson in Atlanta. The Tigers have a strong defense led by linebacker Barrett Carter and defensive lineman Peter Woods.

On offense, quarterback Cade Klubnick and running back Phil Mafah return, as does offensive coordinator Garrett Riley.

Georgia knows it will have to play its best against Clemson, but the Bulldogs are used to that, as they have to do it every practice.

“We’re getting better every day and trying to simulate what we need to work on, find our strengths, find our weaknesses and work on them until we get ready for game week,” Chambliss said. “Right now it’s all about the little inches. We talked about it today: Every inch makes a win.”
