Three Georgia football players to watch during their Week 1 game against the Clemson Tigers.
The Georgia Bulldogs kick off their 2024 college football season this Saturday against the Clemson Tigers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a neutral site game. Head coach Kirby Smart and his team enter the game as one of the favorites to win the national title this year, and that is reflected in the scoring of this game, as they are considered favorites by several points. With a tough opponent to start the season, here are some names to keep an eye on Saturday.
Dominic Lovett, WR
The Clemson Tigers have a high-pressure defense that runs a lot of man coverage. That makes Lovett a major factor in this football game as he plays in the slot. He will be one of the playmakers closest to the ball, a guy who can beat his man quickly and will likely be a name that quarterback Carson Beck puts a lot of emphasis on in this game. Additionally, Lovett is now a veteran in the wide receiver department and will need to be a player the Bulldogs can rely on in key moments throughout the season. That starts on Saturday.
Jared Wilson, C
I just mentioned that Clemson likes to put pressure on defense, and that means it’s going to be a big day for center Jared Wilson. Not only because of that, but it’s also the first college start of his career. The Tigers have some big names on offense that Wilson and the rest of the offensive line will have to deal with all game long, but Wilson in particular will have a big task ahead of him as he has to build what many would call one of the best defensive lines in the country.
Mykel Williams, DE
This is an important game for Williams because Clemson plays a lot of counter offense and that presents a player like Williams with an important task. Many are excited to see Williams play this season because he will also play JACK in addition to his role as defensive end, but one would still expect Williams to play most of his snaps as a defensive end this season. Saturday will be a huge opportunity for Williams to disrupt the Clemson run game while also having some opportunities to attack Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik.
