Former two-time Georgia football national champion records brutal stats with four interceptions in season opener; fans react
From 2021-2022, the Georgia football program had an impressive record of 29-1, including an undefeated record in SEC play. The Georgia Bulldogs also won two consecutive College Football Playoff title games during that time. The Bulldogs were led by Stetson Bennett, who started as a walk-on and later became the team’s starting quarterback. Bennett, an Atlanta native, was twice named Offensive MVP of the CFP National Championship Game, making him the only college football player to win the award twice. Despite his success in college, Bennett was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
After appearing on the reserve/non-football illness list in mid-September, Bennett did not play in his rookie season. Bennett and the Rams announced his return to football early in the offseason, and the Georgia product was scheduled to make his preseason debut on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. The 26-year-old earned all of Los Angeles’ snaps at quarterback, with Bennett throwing the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter. However, Bennett threw four interceptions before the game-winning touchdown, and Twitter (aka X) mocked the two-time CFP title winner for his performance.
Fan reactions: Stetson Bennett, QB of the Los Angeles Rams, throws four interceptions
On Sunday, former Georgia Bulldogs star Stetson Bennett played the entirety of the Los Angeles Rams’ preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys in an NFL preseason one-off game. Bennett led Los Angeles on a field goal drive to open the game before throwing an intercepted pass that abruptly ended his team’s second drive. After another field goal drive early in the second quarter, Bennett threw his second interception with 35 seconds left before halftime. The Rams lined up on the Dallas 19-yard line. Bennett threw his third interception on the Rams’ second drive of the third quarter before throwing a fourth interception on the second drive of the fourth quarter.

Despite the four-interception affair, Bennett and the Rams got the football trailing 13-12 with nearly three minutes left in regulation. Bennett led Los Angeles on a game-winning 13-play, 69-yard drive and capped it off with a game-winning touchdown pass to tight end Miller Forristall. Despite being the leader of a game-winning drive, Twitter, aka X, had its fun with Bennett’s four-interception night. NFL fans didn’t hold back when taking aim at the former Georgia football star.

Bennett: Legendary football career in Georgia
After a walk-on season in Georgia’s football program in 2017, quarterback Stetson Bennett transferred to Jones College following the arrival of five-star passer Justin Fields. Bennett returned to Athens, Georgia in 2019 and joined the Bulldogs as a backup quarterback. Bennett essentially played a backup role in his first two seasons before becoming the team’s starter after a five-touchdown performance as a backup to starter JT Daniels. Bennett shined in his first season as a quarterback, throwing for 2,862 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2021. The Georgia native threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns in a title game victory over Alabama, securing their first championship since 1980.
Bennett followed up his stellar 2022 season with a 4,128-yard, 27-touchdown redshirt senior season. The elder statesman led Georgia to its first undefeated season in program history, capped by a 65-7 victory over TCU in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He was named the offensive MVP after scoring six total touchdowns.
