Florida State vs. Georgia Tech: Final Score Prediction

play

The stage is set.

The Florida State and Georgia Tech football teams are on their way to Ireland. The two teams will face off in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in week zero.

Some would say the Seminoles are on a revenge tour after going undefeated in the regular season and being eliminated from the College Football Playoffs last year. The wounds may have healed, but the scars remain.

Although FSU lost 14 starters, the Seminoles were once again heavily involved in the transfer portal, signing players such as quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, wide receiver Malik Benson, running backs Roydell Williams and Jaylin Lucas, defensive lineman Marvin Jones Jr. and linebacker Cam Riley.

They will all make their FSU debut on Saturday when the game begins at 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Now everyone in the world will finally see what the Seminoles look like. FSU enters the season opener as 10.5-point favorites to beat the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech is coming off a 7-6 season in Brent Key’s debut as head coach. He enters his second season as an underdog, but he might have enough talent to compete at FSU.

The Yellow Jackets are led by the quarterback-running back duo of Haynes King and Jamal Haynes. Last season, King threw for 2,842 yards, 27 touchdowns and 16 interceptions (2nd in the ACC).

On the ground, he rushed for 737 yards, second only to Haynes with 1,059 yards. Both King and Haynes combined for 17 rushing touchdowns.

FSU’s offense will be getting to know Georgia Tech’s defense for the first time under new defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci. Before taking on the DC role as a Yellow Jacket, Santucci was also the defensive coordinator at Duke.

Last season, Duke led the ACC in defense, allowing 19 points, which ranked the Blue Devils 16th nationally. Santucci will bring the same system to the Yellow Jackets.

That being said, here is our match prediction for Saturday’s game.

Goal prediction for Florida State Football vs Georgia Tech

Peter Holland’s prediction:

FSU 17, Georgia Tech 9: I expect both sides to start this ACC matchup with a shaky offensive performance. FSU’s defense will likely have to hold out for at least the first half, which will be no easy task considering they’re facing King.

FSU’s offense should pick up steam later in the second half, especially through the running game. The Yellow Jackets will have a new defense, with Santucci taking on the role of defensive coordinator.

Uiagalelei will be efficient, but I expect the senior to run the game. The game will come down to who runs the football better. Given FSU’s depth at running back and physical offensive line, I’m giving the Seminoles the edge.

Liam’s Rooney prediction:

FSU 27, Georgia Tech 17: The Seminoles leave Ireland with a pot of gold in Week Zero after earning a win over the Yellow Jackets thanks to a good performance from Uiagalelei.

Despite a slow start that gave the Yellow Jackets a brief lead, the Seminoles came out on top in the second half thanks to an impressive passing performance from Uiagalelei. Lawrance Toafili and Roydell Williams rushed effectively and Toafili scored his first touchdown of the season in the win.

FSU’s defense lives up to the hype, forcing King into at least one turnover. The game may be closer than most early on, but the Seminoles will pull away with a second-half performance that overwhelms Georgia Tech.
