TALLAHASSEE – The defending ACC co-champions will take the field for the first time in 2024 when they host the Garnet and Gold Scrimmage at 6 p.m. Friday night at Tully Gym. Admission to the scrimmage is free.

After winning the first ACC title since 2012, head coach Chris Poole brings a wealth of experience and has signed several key rookies and transfers this season. Two of the top players from the 2023 squad are back with the Seminoles, including the 2023 ACC Co-Player of the Year Audrey Koenig. Koenig became just the fourth player in school history to win the ACC Player of the Year award and the first Seminole to win the award since Payton Caffrey in 2018. Koenig had a phenomenal year for the Seminoles as she led the team with 374 kills while posting a .300 batting average. Koenig was also great on defense as she was second on the team with 306 digs. Koenig recorded 13 double-doubles last season, which was the 13th-most in program history. Koenig was also named to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.

Louis Kori also returns to the Seminoles after her best season as a Seminole in 2023. Louis earned First Team All-ACC honors and AVCA All-America honorable mention after recording 271 kills and 93 blocks for the Seminoles. Louis was very efficient in her offense last season, posting a .432 batting average, which was fourth in the country and the fifth-best percentage in school history and the best percentage since Sareea Freeman in 2012.

The Seminoles made one of the biggest transfer spectacles of the offseason when they signed the 2023 AVCA Third Team All-American Taylor head from Arkansas. Head recorded 494 kills for the Razorbacks in 2023, helping them reach the Elite Eight. Head’s 494 kills were a top-20 mark in the country and the second-most kills in the SEC. Head was one of the best all-around players in the country, recording 22 double-doubles, which ranked her third in the country. Head ranked in the top 10 in the SEC in total kills, kills per set, total attacks, attacks per set, double-doubles, points and total digs.

Head wasn’t the only big transfer that Chris Poole landed this season. Kelsey Perry (State of Iowa), Iane Henke (Cal State LA) and Loren Robertson (Memphis) will all play in garnet and gold this fall. Perry did not play last season at Iowa State after a very productive first season for the Cyclones. Perry played 18 times for the Cyclones and ranked second on the team with 92 total blocks in 2022.

Henke was one of the best players in Division II for Cal State LA, which won its first-ever national championship in 2023. Henke was named to the First Team All-CCAA and received honorable mention to AVCA All-America. Henke led the team with 21 kills, a career-high, in the national championship game and finished 2023 with 407 kills and 405 digs. Henke was also named the 2022 National Freshman of the Year.

Robertson brings a ton of experience from Memphis, having played 78 games for the Tigers over four seasons. As a setter, Robertson has 1,650 assists and 554 digs for Memphis.

The Seminoles also brought in a first-year libero Caylan Russ and newcomer in the middle block Johanna Sova The two will give the Seminoles a lot of depth.

The FSU also returns Kenna Phelan, Kyleene Filimaua, Maddie Snider And Ella Gaona all of whom appeared in 25 or more games in the 2023 season.

FSU begins the regular season with the Seminole Invitational, facing USF, UC Santa Barbara and Georgia at Tully Gym from August 30 to September 1.
