It took the Florida State soccer team just under three minutes to score its first goal against the University of North Florida on Sunday night.
Midfielder Ashlyn Puerta’s goal in the opening minutes of the game opened the floodgates for a blitzkrieg of goals by the Seminoles, who crushed the Ospreys 10-0, extending the team’s unbeaten streak to 25 games – a new team record.
With his goal, Puerta extended the Seminoles’ scoring streak in each game to 36, another program record.
The 10 goals were one goal shy of the program record of 11 goals set when the Seminoles beat Jacksonville 11-0 in 1995.
There were six different goal scorers for the Seminoles, including a hat trick for midfielder Taylor Huff and two goals for defender Camille Ashe. FSU improved its season record to 2-0-0, scoring 15 goals and conceding none in its first two games.
Huff was the star in midfield, dictating the tempo of the game and pulling the strings to create numerous chances.
In addition to her three goals, she also provided an assist, bringing her total assist count this season to four.
With her seven points, she was just one point below the program record of eight points in a game.
The senior was a crucial part of head coach Brian Pensky’s system and Huff was the centerpiece of the Seminoles’ winning streak.
