On Wednesday, August 28, around 4:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the kitchen area of popular local diner Mo’s Seafood and Chowder, located at 860 SW 51st St in Lincoln City.

Upon arrival, North Lincoln Fire and Rescue (NLFR) found that the original fire had been extinguished. However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that the fire was still active in a walled area nearby. In order to finally extinguish the fire, NLFR had to open the wall.

According to spokesman Cody Heidt, there were no injuries among Mo’s employees, customers or firefighters.

A defective gas line is initially suspected to be the cause of the fire, but a final decision has not yet been made.

This is the third commercial fire in Lincoln City this month, and some people on the Lincoln City Homepage Facebook community page are wondering whether or not the fires are related.

I asked PIO Heidt this question and his answer was a clear “No, the fires have nothing to do with it.”

However, he warned that with cooler temperatures approaching, everyone should be aware of the dangers posed by improper use of extension cords in both home and business use.
