The FSU football team finished fall training camp with a breakout performance from veteran defensive back Shyheim Brown. The Noles will open their 2024 season on Saturday night against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. FSU fans had a clear idea of ββwho would be in the starting lineup for the season opener, and the FSU coaching staff released its initial roster on Sunday afternoon.
There were a few surprises, like Jalen Brown being selected for one of the wide receiver spots. Kevin Knowles in the starting spot at Oregon with Earl Little Jr. caught my eye. I don’t think FSU fans were worried before the game, but they were probably excited to see who was where. However, I think they got even more encouraged when they saw the names on paper:
I think the players listed as backups tell even more of the story. For FSU to list that many players on its offensive line is crazy! FSU has several redshirt freshmen or sophomores listed, which is encouraging. For the people saying FSU doesn’t develop players, there are 13 guys this team recruited out of high school that are listed as starters or co-starters.
I expect these rankings to change as the season progresses. Young players will continue to develop but unfortunately injuries always affect things but the hope is FSU can avoid those for a change. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Elijah Moore and Lawayne McCoy move up the rankings. Some people were surprised Hykeem Williams isn’t listed as a starter. I believe he battled an injury this fall that slowed him down. The fact that he was on the field as a freshman last year tells me he will play a role if he stays healthy.
