Family of APD officer killed in hit-and-run seeks answers

It has been over a day since Albuquerque police officer Bianca Quintana was killed.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – It’s been more than a day since Albuquerque police officer Bianca Quintana was killed.

Her family says Quintana always wanted to help others and encourage everyone to be the best they can be.

Now her family hopes that the perpetrator will hear their plea to come forward and help them get justice for Bianca.

“I just want them to come forward. I hope they find in their hearts that just speaking up is the right thing to do,” said Maricruz Dominguez, Bianca Quintana’s sister. “I mean, my sister’s face is all over social media. If you think that was her, if you think that was her impression, please come forward.”

Dominguez is heartbroken after her sister, Albuquerque police officer Bianca Quintana, was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning.

“The vehicle must be damaged. There were car parts lying around at the scene of the accident. We know a headlight is missing. We know the radiator is leaking. The whole road is full of dirt and we know they couldn’t have gotten far,” Dominguez said.

Dominguez says they think the car might be dark blue or black. But where the accident occurred, at the corner of Coors and Chapulin, there aren’t many lights.

“When we got to the station, they said they had video footage that they were reviewing to find out what make and model year the vehicle was. The lighting in this part of town isn’t exactly ideal, so it’s just a matter of luck at the moment. We’re just waiting,” Dominguez said.

Dominguez said her mother found Quintana’s belongings on the street, a backpack, a broken Apple Watch and a flashlight that was still burning.

“Whoever caused the impact, how did you not see them there? It’s an APD officer’s flashlight, they have good lighting. So there are just a lot of questions,” Dominguez said.

Quintana was a wife and mother of two boys, ages 5 and 12.

“Her youngest doesn’t really understand. He doesn’t really understand, he’s so young he doesn’t know he’s never going to see his mommy again,” Dominguez said. “Her 12-year-old. I mean, when he got the news, he just cried. This is his best friend, this was the child that made her a mother, her first born. I mean, her kids were everything to her and she made that clear every day.”

There are currently no leads or suspects. Dominguez works at Leo’s Bar, where a $1,000 reward is being offered for any information.

If you know anything, call the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
