Falcons release former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver

The Atlanta Falcons are releasing former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver James Washington, they announced Sunday. Washington got a chance with the Falcons in July due to injuries in the wide receiver room, but was unable to turn it into anything significant.

It’s another team that Washington would have loved to get into, but his attempts have been unsuccessful. In the last few years since leaving the Steelers, Washington has played for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and others trying to stay in one place.

Washington suffered a serious foot injury during training camp with the Cowboys in 2022. Since the injury, Washington has not made the practice squad or 90-man roster for more than a few weeks.

Washington, the Steelers’ second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, had his best season in 2019, recording 757 receiving yards and three touchdowns. However, Washington fell into obscurity over time as he was unable to consistently break away.

Washington’s lack of playing time eventually got to him, and there were reports that he demanded a transfer from Pittsburgh during the 2021 training camp. Pittsburgh let him go after the 2021 season, and his adventure in the NFL has continued since then.
