ESPN reporter: Don’t be surprised if Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter wins the ROTY

According to an NFL reporter from ESPN, it would not be a surprise if former Georgia Bulldogs player Kamari Lassiter was named NFL Rookie of the Year this season.

The Georgia Bulldogs have drafted 33 players in the NFL over the last three years, and from that group of players, several budding stars have emerged. One of them already looks set to become a star before his rookie season has even begun. Defensive back Kamari Lassiter looks set to be an impact player for the Houston Texans this season, and big things are expected of him.

The Texans have been raving about the former Bulldog all offseason. The organization selected Lassiter in the second round of this year’s draft, and one NFL reporter expects the pick to pay off immediately.

ESPN NFL reporter Dan Graziano recently wrote an article stating that fans shouldn’t be surprised if Lassiter is named NFL Rookie of the Year this season. Here’s what he wrote:

“The Texans coaching staff has been impressed with Lassiter, the second-round pick out of Georgia, and the team believes he can be an impactful starter in his rookie season. Several people I’ve spoken to in the building have told me unprompted how Lassiter held up in battles with Stefon Diggs during training camp. Since Derek Stingley Jr. has a reputation as a corner opposing offenses want to stay away from, teams will likely look to throw to the rookie on the other side. This will provide opportunities for interceptions and if Lassiter can cash in on those, that’s the type of stat that will help win this award.”

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans recently spoke about the Lassiter signing and he was very candid not only about Lassiter, but the entire Georgia football program.

“With Kamari, you can tell he’s built for it,” Ryans said. “When it comes to mental toughness, which is a big impact on being a good football player, you have to be mentally tough, you have to have the mentality to make the next play, and at Georgia, Kirby did a great job, you can see he raised them the right way. Kirby did a great job with all of his guys. He got them NFL ready, and you see that year after year at Georgia since he’s been there. Those guys are plug and play players, and that’s a credit to him and his program and how they run things there. When you get a Georgia player, you know you’re getting an NFL player.”
