LCSO PRESS RELEASE:
On Thursday, August 15, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Leon High School Resource Center was alerted to a student with a possible weapon.
The deputy met with school administrators who were conducting a threat assessment on a 15-year-old Leon High student. The student posted a photo of herself with a firearm on social media and school personnel became aware of it.
The deputy and school staff contacted the student on school property and school staff searched her belongings. A small can of pepper spray and an electronic weapon (stun gun) were discovered in her purse.
The student is accused of illegal possession of weapons on campus and was taken to the juvenile detention center.
The school administration, in coordination with LCSO, responded quickly and decisively to this incident. Parents and guardians are urged to speak openly and honestly with their children about the importance of adhering to the school district’s zero-tolerance policy toward weapons on campus. To ensure a safe school environment, it is imperative that students understand the seriousness of the situation and the potential consequences.
