Debbie Mucarsel-Powell announces Democrats’ recommendations for the US Senate election campaign
A list of seven prominent Florida Democrats is supporting former U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in her effort to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott of Naples.
Her campaign announced her endorsements on Thursday, including former gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink, Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey and U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel of West Palm Beach.
“I want to thank the incredible leaders across Florida who stood by me and helped me build a movement that reflects the values of all Floridians who call this state home,” said Mucarsel-Powell, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. “For the past 14 years, Rick Scott has robbed Floridians of our freedoms, our economic security and opportunities for our children – but enough is enough.”
Sink ran unsuccessfully against Scott for governor in 2010 and served as the state’s chief financial officer from 2007 to 2011. Scott served as governor from 2011 to 2019 and won a Senate election in 2018 against then-incumbent Bill Nelson.
“I have witnessed firsthand the chaos that Rick Scott and his extremist allies are wreaking on the people of Florida, so I am thrilled to support Debbie Mucarsel-Powell as the winner to defeat him in November,” Sink said.
Other supporters include State Senator Shevrin Jones of Miami Gardens, State Representatives Dianne Hart of Tampa and Katherine Waldron of Wellington, and Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis.
Mucarsel-Powell won the Democratic primary last week with 68.5% of the vote against three other candidates. Scott won his Republican primary with 84% against two challengers.
