Crime in Chicago: Lightning break-in at ice cream parlor in Rogers Park caught on video; ULTA Beauty Store in Lincoln Park also affected
CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police are investigating two flash burglaries that occurred at North Side businesses early Sunday morning.
The first break-in occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. at an ice cream parlor in the 6600 block of North Clark Street in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

According to police, a man broke the glass door of the store and then stole cash and goods.
The break-in at the ice cream parlor was captured on surveillance cameras and the owner said it was shocking to see how his employees were affected by the break-in.
The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, told ABC7 that this is the first time in the four years he has operated the Clark Street ice cream shop that someone has broken into it. He said the suspect stole hundreds of dollars from the cash register.
“It’s sad. It’s very sad,” the owner said. “People work hard, you know?”
Later Sunday, business continued as usual at the ice cream parlor in Rogers Park, although customers had to walk through a broken door for most of the day.
“When I saw that the door was broken, I asked my sister, ‘Should we come in or not?’ Because we don’t feel safe,” customer Laura Nunez said in Spanish.

Surveillance video shows a man throwing an object through the glass door and then walking away. He returns, looks around, then climbs through the shattered entrance. Once inside, he can be seen jumping over the counter, going straight to the cash register, breaking it open and stealing more than $500 in cash.
Employees spent the entire day cleaning up broken glass. The brick that was apparently used in the crime was lying on the floor. The store owner is also left with concerns.
“I’m going to have to argue with the insurance company,” said the owner. “You know, this is very annoying, very sad.”
Plywood was later added to cover the damage.
The owner told ABC7 by phone that he is determined not to let the break-in close his business and will keep his business open while the glass door is repaired.
Police said the suspect fled and was still being sought.
