Court hearing for former NMSU basketball players set for Monday

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) – Three former New Mexico State University basketball players accused of sexual assault are expected to appear in court Monday.

The New Mexico Attorney General’s Office has charged Deshawndre Washington, Dr. Bradley and Kim Aiken Jr. with a total of 37 sex crimes.

Washington and Bradley were last seen in court in December of last year after pleading not guilty a month earlier.

Aiken Jr. was initially issued with a $20,000 arrest warrant for failure to appear in court, but he reappeared in December. Aiken’s lawyer said he had been playing basketball overseas.

If the former players are found guilty of this charge, they face prison sentences of more than two decades.

The New Mexico Attorney General’s Office had previously told ABC-7 that four people had made allegations that led to the charges.

Allegations of sexual assault in the program first came to light in February 2023, when a player filed a police complaint against the three.

These allegations resulted in the program being shut down for the remainder of the season and subsequently head coach Greg Heiar being fired.

According to court documents, the virtual hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
