LINCOLN, Nebraska (Press Release) – The 2024 Nebraska football season begins on August 31 when the Huskers host the UTEP Miners at Memorial Stadium, kicking off at 2:30 p.m.
Ahead of the season, the University of Nebraska Athletic Department is highlighting changes fans can expect when they arrive at Memorial Stadium and other sports venues.
The most noticeable change at all Husker home games is the move to cashless athletic facilities for all operations, including concessions, tickets and merchandise. Fans will also find updated screening technology at Memorial Stadium gates, allowing for more efficient entry and increased security.
Cashless operation
Nebraska Athletics will implement cashless operations starting in the fall.
Nebraska implemented cashless concessions for men’s and women’s basketball games at Pinnacle Bank Arena, and all Huskers’ venues have now switched to this operation.
Improved Wi-Fi throughout Memorial Stadium will allow Nebraska to implement cashless concessions. Nebraska will also implement cashless operations for women’s soccer (Hibner Stadium) and volleyball (Devaney Center).
Cashless transactions also include the sale of merchandise in the Memorial Stadium stands as well as the purchase of seat backs and game day programs.
Fans should note that ticket purchases are not possible via Google Pay or Apple Pay.
Gate shielding
Nebraska Athletics will implement a new screening process at Memorial Stadium this fall. Walk-through technology is designed to provide a more efficient screening process and increase the safety of Husker fans.
The new gate scanners will not impact Nebraska’s clear bag policy, which remains in effect at all Husker venues. More information can be found here.
Athletic Ticket Office and Call Move
The Athletic Stadium ticket counter has moved to West Stadium. On football game days, the ticket counter will operate through the windows at Gate 10A, near the northwest corner of Memorial Stadium. Game day ticket troubleshooting will continue to be available at Gate 21.
The regular opening hours of the ticket office are on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Weststadion (Gate 7).
Improved WiFi in the hall
Nebraska has completed the first phase of new wireless technology at Memorial Stadium. Work focused on improving access in the stadium concourses. Fans should be aware that the FanXP wireless network will no longer be available in the stadium seating areas. Fans are encouraged to use the stadium concourses if they require improved wireless connectivity.
Mobile ticketing
Fall sports ticket holders should have received their tickets through a mobile ticketing option or printed tickets. Fans who have not received their fall season tickets should contact the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office.
The 2024 fall sports season will be the last time Nebraska will use printed tickets. Tickets for all Husker sporting events will be mobile beginning with the 2024-25 winter sports seasons. Nebraska’s football, volleyball and soccer teams will fully transition to mobile tickets beginning in fall 2025.
Arrival of the team/Lobby of the Osborne Legacy Complex
Nebraska fans are encouraged to continue to welcome the Huskers to Memorial Stadium on game days with a new drop-off location and walking path for the team. Members of the Spirit Squad and Cornhusker Marching Band will be in attendance as the team arrives, and Husker fans will have the opportunity to cheer on the team as it arrives on game day.
The football team will arrive near the intersection of 14th and Vine Streets approximately two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff. The team will walk on the sidewalk past the Nebraska Coliseum, through the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame and into the main lobby of the Osborne Legacy Complex. Upon arrival at the complex, the walk will be renamed the Husker Legacy Walk starting this season.
The Osborne Legacy Complex lobby will not be open to the public on game days. Information regarding complex lobby hours will be announced.
Sideline switch
Nebraska Athletics has already announced that the Huskers football team will move to the west sideline on game days starting this fall. The visiting team will stand on the east sideline. The entrances for the teams will not change: Nebraska’s Tunnel Walk will come from the northeast corner and the visiting team will enter Tom Osborne Field from the southwest corner.
TV timeout clock
The Big Ten Conference has changed the location of the clock that indicates the length of media breaks. The clock is no longer on the boards at Memorial Stadium, but on the field near the southwest 20-yard line.
