The City of Lincoln has announced that Andrew Breshears has accepted the position of Police Chief and will fill the vacant position.
Breshears has eleven years of experience in law enforcement, ten years with the Benton County Sheriff’s Department and one year as a reserve officer for the City of Lincoln.
A native of Benton County, Breshears is the son of Carey and Dena Whitworth Breshears. Breshears and his twin brother Anthony grew up on their parents’ 500-acre farm in the Edwards, Missouri area. They both did their share of the family work, tending the cattle herd. In school, he was a leader and mentor in sports and other school activities.
He worked for the family home improvement business, Breshears Homes Inc., for several years, helping to manage day-to-day operations before attending the police academy in Warrensburg and then taking a job with the sheriff’s office.
From his time as a reserve officer, Chief Breshears knows that being a city officer is very different from his work at the Sheriff’s Office. One of his goals is to build a good relationship with the community and gain trust with residents, especially the youth in Lincoln.
“I hope I can make it possible for them to come and talk to me if they feel the need,” he said.
He continued, “Social media has put law enforcement in a bad light and I hope I can change that a little here in Lincoln.”
One of his first goals is to soon hire a second official to fill the currently vacant position.
Chief Breshears was hired with unanimous approval from Mayor Glen Nelson and the City Council.
