Blackshirt alumnus gives confident season forecast for Nebraska football

Will Compton has once again committed to Nebraska football.

After earning a blackshirt as a player and proudly maintaining his loyalty to the Big Reds throughout his career in the National Football League and in the media, the Nebraska alumnus spoke highly of his expectations for the upcoming season. Compton was a featured guest on the latest episode of Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast.

“I have a really good feeling about the Huskers. I like their schedule. Honestly, I think they could be competitive this year… I think they could go 10-2.”

Compton then expanded on his thoughts, saying he believes Nebraska will start the season 7-0 when it faces Ohio State on Oct. 26. Pardon My Take co-hosts Dan “Big Cat” Katz and PFT Commenter then poked fun at Compton’s pride in the Huskers.

“How many times have you done this exercise and it actually worked?” Katz said.

“I understand Nebraska’s recent history, where you think, ‘Oh, these guys are delusional.’ This year is special,” Compton said.

“That sounds realistic,” replied one PFT commentator.

Compton then justified his confidence by saying that newly named starting quarterback Dylan Raiola will be a “star,” that most of Nebraska’s defensive players will return and that there will be four one-point losses in the 2023 season. The retired linebacker added that the state’s confidence will help the team.

“(College football) is like oxygen out there.”

Both podcast co-hosts then went through the Huskers’ schedule game by game and gave their analysis and predictions for the upcoming season. Katz and PFT Commenter agreed that Nebraska would go into the road trip to Columbus undefeated – with Commenter sarcastically crediting the Big Red with a tie against Illinois – and then finish the season with four losses to Ohio State, USC, Wisconsin and Iowa.

The commentator then asked about Compton’s impression of Matt Rhule and whether the former NFL coach could still turn Nebraska’s season around if “things go bad.”

“I think so. You’ve probably heard his speeches. The way he interacts with the guys, the words he has to say, you always feel like he has the right thing to say at the right time,” Compton said.
