CHICAGO (AP) — On the third night of the Democratic National Convention, a well-known former president, Bill Clinton, appeared and more Americans got to know Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who was little known outside his state until Vice President Kamala Harris chose him as her running mate. Walz used his background as a former teacher and football coach to lend a down-home flavor to the agenda of Democrats who protect individual liberties and oppose what they call the intrusive policies of Republican Donald Trump.
ASHEBORO, N.C. (AP) — Donald Trump spoke from behind bulletproof glass at his first public rally since the assassination attempt in North Carolina last month. The focus of Wednesday’s event was national security, but he also criticized his predecessor Barack Obama as “evil” for his comments the night before at the Democratic National Convention.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian commanders and soldiers say some new troops are refusing to fire on the enemy. Others are having trouble assembling weapons or coordinating basic combat movements. Some have even abandoned their posts and left the battlefield altogether. The commanders made the comments to The Associated Press as Ukraine continues to lose ground on the country’s eastern front.
