I’m still hoping that somehow things will turn around for the better for brick-and-mortar retail. Unfortunately, that recovery hasn’t happened yet for stores like Best Buy. The company has already closed 24 stores, including at least one in Missouri, and reports say up to 15 more are on the way.
We’ve already seen some Best Buy store closures in Missouri and Illinois over the past year, but this recent report from KABC noted something I wasn’t aware of during a Best Buy earnings call. The full transcript gives even more details, but here’s the short version:
Best Buy has closed a total of 24 stores this fiscal year and this includes a location in Missouri
The conference call states: The chain will close another 10 to 15 stores in the coming financial year.
I am curious if this process has already begun or will begin in the near future based on the current status of a Best Buy location in St. Joseph, Missouri. The official Best Buy page still shows it as an active store, but the According to the Google entry, the company is “temporarily closed” and the official Best Buy site shows that the store will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
It’s possible that the store is currently undergoing remodeling, but that would be odd for a relatively small location in St. Joseph.
I’m not a financial expert, nor do I want to speculate, especially when people’s jobs are at risk. We all knew about Best Buy’s 24 closures this year, but the additional 10 to 15 closures are new. Time will tell if some or many of the 20 remaining Best Buy stores in Missouri will be affected.
