ESPN’s extensive coverage of the Little League World Series includes segments that feature pre-recorded responses from players on topics like favorite foods, apps they like and people they’d like to meet. At the MLB Little League Classic between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers in Williamsport on Sunday, ESPN did something similar with some players from the competing teams. And they got a remarkable response from Tigers pitcher Beau Brieske:
“There’s one person I’d like to meet: Abraham Lincoln. To be honest, I’d just like to ask him a few questions. That sounds bad now that I say it.” – Beau Brieske on the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast of the Little League Classic pic.twitter.com/VcjeU6Aagt

There’s not necessarily anything inherently wrong with that answer, since that question doesn’t seem to specify “what living person” (and many questions of this nature are often answered with numbers). And “picking someone’s brain” is a relatively common phrase. But the “brain” comment in particular attracted some attention given the unique circumstances of Lincoln’s assassination, especially after Brieske himself admitted that it sounded bad. Here’s part of that discussion:

This certainly brought some commentary to ESPN and Brieske. However, it is by far not the most outrageous thing the broadcaster has done in connection with the American Civil War.
