Emphasizes the value of domestic production of key medical devices
FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ, 22 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a global leader in medical technology, today celebrated the 75th anniversary of its manufacturing operations in Columbus, Nebraska.and stressed the need and value of domestic production of key medical devices.
The milestone was celebrated at a ceremony that recognized the achievements of the site and its 2,100 employees. BD Columbus was opened in 1949 with 25,000 square meters and 15 employees who manufactured glass thermometers. Today the company employs 2,100 people in Columbus at three locations and 90,000 square meters. It is one of the largest plants in the BD network and one of only two remaining large-scale syringe manufacturing sites in the United States. The other site is the BD site in Canaan, Connecticut.

The company’s rich history in Columbus began after World War II, when the U.S. government asked the company to diversify the geographic production locations of its goods and help strengthen the resilience of the medical supply chain. This concept continues to this day.
