Two people who were in a car reported stolen are being held without bail as part of an ongoing Montgomery County Police investigation into motor vehicle thefts.
On Tuesday, officers from the Montgomery County Police Auto Crime Enforcement Section found a 2020 Kia Sportage with Florida plates that had been reported stolen the day before in Washington, DC.
DeJuan Jenifer, 19, of Hyattsville, was sitting in the car and Makiya Donohue, 20, of Silver Spring, was trying to get into the car as police approached.
Jenifer attempted to drive away and put the car in reverse, but crashed into an Amazon locker. Both suspects were arrested.
Officers searched the car and found a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol in the driver’s seat where Jenifer had been sitting. Police said there was one cartridge in the chamber.
Jenifer was charged with auto theft, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and other auto theft-related offenses. Donohue is charged with auto theft and other auto theft-related offenses.
Jenifer had already been arrested by Montgomery County police on June 24 for auto theft and was out on bail. Donohue was also out on bail, and both had arrest warrants for several recent auto thefts.
