16-year-old Montgomery County track and field star Quincy Wilson will run in the 4×400 relay at the Olympics
PARIS – Quincy Wilson is expected to run for the Americans in the men’s 4×400-meter relay on Friday, which would make the 16-year-old the youngest male competitor for the U.S. track and field team.
Wilson posted on his Instagram page a picture of himself with the reminder to tune in to the men’s relay at 5:05 a.m. on Friday mornings (on the East Coast).
At the Olympic trials earlier this summer, Wilson broke the U18 world record twice with times of 44.66 and 44.59, which put him in the final of the 400 meters, where he finished sixth and was later selected for the US relay pool for Olympics.
āIām 16 years old and I run times like a grown man,ā said the Maryland native during the trial runs.
According to Olympic historian Bill Mallon, Arthur Newton was the youngest American to compete in Olympic track and field, completing the steeplechase in 1904 at age 17. Jim Ryun was 17 when he qualified for his first Olympics in 1964, and Erriyon Knighton was 17 when he made it to Tokyo three years ago.
