LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – A 12-year-old girl was struck by a car on her way to school in south Lincoln Friday morning, police said.
At about 7:45 a.m., a car failed to yield at the corner of 48th Street and Claire Avenue and collided with a southbound delivery truck, police said.
The car then skidded through the intersection and hit a 12-year-old girl who was waiting at the crosswalk on her way to school.
The accident occurred near Pound Middle School, police said. The child suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to a hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.

This morning before school started, a car crash occurred at the corner of 48th and Claire Streets. The force of the impact caused the car to slide into a group of Pound students crossing 48th Street at the crosswalk. The families of the students who may have been injured have been contacted.
Several students may have witnessed the accident and may be distressed or in need of additional support. Please be assured that our staff is here to help them.
