One person was killed Wednesday in a chase that began in Montgomery County and ended in northern Houston, authorities said.
At about 2:15 p.m., Houston police were notified that a person had been struck by a car while the driver was being pursued by officers from the Montgomery County Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, HPD spokesman John Cannon said.
The pursued driver fled and was eventually arrested by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, according to spokesman Sergeant Thomas Gilliland.
That driver was identified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as Joseph Jebbia. Preliminary information indicates that Jebbia disregarded a red light and subsequently struck another vehicle, setting off a chain reaction that resulted in the vehicle driven by Jebbia striking the person waiting at a bus stop.
According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Jebbia had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Montgomery County for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
ABC13 reported that the person killed was waiting for a bus near West Road and Interstate 45 before being struck by a car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Jebbia is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the chest on June 14 before fleeing the scene, according to the Montgomery County agency news release. A warrant was issued for his arrest after officers were unable to locate him.
Gilliland said the driver will be turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Cannon said HPD will investigate the accident portion of the incident.
